Project Overview

Confluence seconded one of its directors to Murray Irrigation Limited (MIL) to serve as in‑house legal counsel on a medium‑term basis, providing dedicated legal and commercial expertise during a period of significant organisational transformation. The role supported both strategic initiatives and day‑to‑day operational matters within a complex and evolving regulatory environment.

Method and Approach

Confluence leverage experienced gained from +5 years working in one of Sydney’s premier commercial law offices to deliver expert commercial legal advice to MIL. Confluence support extends across governance, compliance, contracts, and commercial strategy. Will worked closely with MIL’s leadership to assess new commercial opportunities, manage regulatory obligations, and guide the development and launch of major commercial initiatives, including funding agreement and contractual negotiations, supporting MIL’s launch of a water asset trading business, ensuring compliance with an expanding list of new water market regulations, and liaising through the expansion of jurisdiction of the Energy and Water Ombudsman. 

Outcome

The secondment strengthened MIL’s capability to successfully navigate and address key strategic issues by providing high‑calibre legal and commercial support. Confluence’s involvement enables MIL to progress significant commercial endeavours with confidence, maintain compliance across a widening regulatory landscape, and enhance the organisation’s overall commercial and operational resilience.
